Flexible Class-Lab

Tables

Instructors who have taught in the room have experienced firsthand the enhanced interest, rapport, involvement and accountability of students learning in the Flexible Class-Lab. Students are more creative, relaxed, open, and willing to work together in this environment because it enables mobility, informality, and collaboration. The students are excited about learning how to put the technology to work toward their individual learning goals as well as toward group projects.

The resources in the room will make it easier for you to integrate academic, presentation, and information technologies into your own teaching style. The Flex Lab was designed by curriculum experts to promote innovative, effective teaching, not just computers in the classroom.

Audio / Video Facilities

A World-Format VCR is available for use within the lab for playback of pre-recorded video tape.

A CD/ DVD Player has been installed in order to facilitate the presentation of classroom visual/audio aids.

Amplification and sound inputs are provided for microphones, VCR, Compact Discs, and computers. A wireless microphone is available as well, for instructors to wear while speaking. Sound is distributed through two high fidelity JBL stereo speakers.

Instructor Station

The room also includes an Instructor Station for the use of faculty teaching in the Lab. The instructor station is a Dell Pentium 4. Its display can be projected, and its audio outputs can be fed through the room's sound system.

The Flexible Nature of the Class-Lab's Furniture

The tables and chairs are fully modular and can be configured in any number of ways. Thus, the room can support lecture classes, discussion groups, graduate seminars, and multiple small-group projects.

Tables and Chairs

The Flexible Class-Lab derives its name in part from its ability to handle numerous different room configurations. Towards this end, it is outfitted with 15 wheeled interlocking tables which can easily be arranged, joined together, or separated.

The room is stocked with over twenty wheeled chairs that allow both students and instructors to comfortably alter seating arrangements.
