Project Description I wanted to use video clips in my class to illustrate both how to, and how not to negotiate. Rather than rent or buy DVDs each time I wanted to use a clip, I wanted to have a single DVD with ten or so clips that could be used spontaneously and easily. The Process The ATL staff was helpful in both conceptualizing and implementing this project. From a technical perspective it was useful to have them sit with me to do both the ripping and burning of the clips. In almost every case (maybe 8 or 10 visits) something went wrong technically, and I was glad that I was not alone trying to figure out how to correct whatever went wrong. They were very accomodating schedule wise, which is important to an adjunct professor who is not on campus full-time. While I worked mostly with Jackie, other staff were helpful when she was not around. The Outcome I taught my class in the Learning Theatre in Wallenberg Hall. This made the use of the video clips even more effective than anticipated, due to the audio-video equipment. I now send my TA or students to the ATL from time to time for help with video clips and continue to get benefit out of the center. I also get some help from them each quarter on Coursework, which I find invaluable. Lessons Learned 1) Technical projects take a lot of time, 2) Hand off projects to TA when possible. Future Projects at the ATL I imagine a continued ongoing relationship that is consistent with the continued workflow--help with Coursework, and some video work. |
